Roundtable & OA Chapter Mtg, 7:30 pm, Thurs, Oct. 4

Whether you have been an adult Scouter for 20 days or 20 years, you will walk away from Roundtable with new insights and best practices to bring back to your unit.  

On the Cub side we will have a special guest presenting 12 games and gathering ideas for leaders to incorporate into their den and pack meetings.  

On the Boy Scout side we will have a special guest come and share a list of awesome camping locations near McKinney and possible conservation projects your troop or crew could do.  Please bring a list of your favorite nearby camping locations.

The Order of the Arrow (OA) Chapter Meeting will be having a fun activity and doing chapter elections.  Come, have some fun, and cast your vote.

Don’t keep this Roundtable a secret… invite all of your leaders to attend Roundtable; den leaders, assistant scoutmasters, cubmasters, crew advisors, committee members, Scoutmasters.  

Roundtable is held every month on the first Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; 2801 Eldorado Parkway, McKinney, TX.

Leader Specific Training Night, Tues., October 16th

Are you fully trained?  You can be.  We are offering a plethora of trainings on two evenings in October.  We want you and the leaders from your unit there.  See all the things you can do to become 100% trained.

Come and join us for a Merit Badge Clinic being held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints' Lake Forest building on Saturday, October 27th and Saturday, November 3rd (both days required) from 8 am to noon.

Oak Leaf Youth Training, Nov 2-3

District Annual Business Mtg, Tues., Nov., 6th at 6:45 pm

Calling all Chartered Organization Representatives, District Committee members, and Council Committee members inside of the Lone Star District.  We are holding our annual business meeting on Tuesday, November 6th at 6:45 pm.  Come join us and vote on the proposed slate of committee members and officers for the Lone Star District Committee.

After the voting, which doesn't take too long, stick around for the monthly District Committee Meeting.  This will all be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where we hold Roundtable; 2801 Eldorado Parkway, McKinney, TX.

CTX2, Circle Ten eXperience #2, November 9-11

Circle Ten eXperience #2 is a huge council camping event being held at Texas Motor Speedway on November 9-11, 2018 for all Scouting ages.  You don't want to miss it. 

Registration is open. All it takes is a $50 deposit to reserve the spot for your unit. This deposit will be applied to your total eXperience fee of $25 per person. Campsites will be assigned in proximity to the program area based on the date of registration, so the early bird gets the shortest walk.

By registering your unit early or by registering yourself to staff the CTX2! 

Each unit registered in time (before the patches are gone) will receive 2 patches for adults attending CTX2 to wear as they promote the event to their units and districts. All staff that sign up now will also receive this patch, until they run out.

Looking for Volunteers for the Cub Scout Midway for CTX

The council committee running the Cub Scout Midway for CTX is trying to fill close to 300 time slots (consisting of two hours each), and thus need LOTS and LOTS of volunteers to make this a success!  If you can spare a couple hours at CTX to help it would be appreciated.

Essay Contest for Eagle Scouts, December 15, 2018

Eagles you have an opportunity to enter an essay contest for a chance to win $10,000; $6,000; and $4,000.  The Sons of the American Revolution annually hosts a national contest for Eagles, the Arthur M. & Berdena King Eagle Scout Award.  December 15th is the local deadline.  Take a chance, use your writing skills, enhance your knowledge for your Citizenship in the Nation or the American Heritage Merit Badges.

Save the date - January 5, 2019 at SMU

Join us for a full day of training and fellowship with other Scouters in the council. There will be lots of new classes including classes that address recruiting, selecting units, young women in scouting, and the all new commissioner’s program. As an extra bonus, the council key 3 have agreed to host session one to talk about the state of Circle 10 and what their vision for the upcoming years is. There is also a chance of an appearance by Michael Surbaugh, the National BSA executive!

District Eagle Recognition & Award Dinner, Jan 19th

Who:     All Lone Star District Leaders and the Class of 2018 Eagles
             (2018 Eagles are free)
What:    Join us for a Dinner as we give thanks to everyone that made the 2018 Scouting year count!

Award Nominations - available now

We would like to get a jump on some recognition we feel is very important but we need your help.  We need to know who it is that makes your unit and our district SPECIAL!  It is time to nominate the Scouters in our district that do such a great job providing a quality program for the youth in our area.   Nobody knows who does a better job than you.  Please take a moment to nominate them.  The awards 1-5 and 7 will be presented at the district dinner on January 19th.   The awards are:  

   1 - The Unit Spark Plug Award (Every unit should submit one of these.)  
   2 - The Unit or District Scouting Family Award
   3 - The Unit or District Rising Star Award  
   4 - The District Silver Star Award  
   5 - The District Award of Merit  
   6 - The Silver Beaver Award (due before November 1st)
   7 - The Outstanding Organization Award (new for 2018)

Hurry, it is not too late to get into one of the courses this year.~For all leaders; Packs, Troops, and Crews.  A premier training.  It makes good leaders better and better leaders great!

National Youth Leadership Training

After your youth leaders have completed Oak Leaf, the next training step is National Youth Leadership Training. NYLT is an intense, 5 1/2 day, outdoor leadership training experience for Troop, Team, Crew and Ship youth leaders. The course goal is to prepare young men and women to become superior leaders in their local units and in the future.
